2008 Cardiovascular Travel Grants

Call for applications - closing date 30 June 2008

Australian medical graduates who have entered the field of research (or returned after an appropriate break) within the last five years are invited to submit an application for the 2008 Cardiovascular Travel Grants. Pfizer Australia will provide two major travel grants of up to AU$5,000 to attend an international scientific meeting and a further eight travel assistance grants of up to AU$2,000 each as part of their continued commitment to cardiovascular research in this country.

Applications are open to Australian medical graduates who have completed a piece of cardiovascular or related clinical research that has either been accepted, or has been submitted and is likely to be accepted, at a clinical meeting.

The grants are available for travel to attend a scientific meeting within 12 months of their being awarded.

All applications are reviewed by at least three independent expert referees. This committee will accept 10 abstracts to be presented as posters at the 2008 Cardiovascular Forum Specialist Weekend on 16-17 August 2008. The committee will then select the posters that will receive the two major travel grants and the eight travel assistance grants. This process provides an ideal opportunity to develop and refine abstracts and posters prior to presentation at major meetings.

Applications for the 2008 Cardiovascular Travel Grants close on 30 June 2008. You can obtain further information about funding and apply online via this website.

Professor Richard O'Brien

"It is a great pleasure to be associated with the Pfizer Cardiovascular Travel Grants. These grants firstly provide a forum for young medical graduates, engaged in research, to discuss their work in front of an expert audience. For the award winners, the prize is a wonderful opportunity to present their findings at a national or international meeting. I would like to sincerely thank Pfizer for continuing to make these grants available to our young medical researchers."
